The weather is nice these days. Valentines day is around the corner! And anti-social elements like Pramod Muthalik are active again and so is their uneducated fan following. I never understood why people have a problem with something like Valentines day, which is a day to celebrate love. We hate each other every day. The Marathi maanus killing Biharis and north indians. South Indians hating North Indians. Upper caste killing and torturing Dalits. There is always a Hindus-Muslim story. The list is endless. I don’t find it difficult to understand how the terrorists attacked Mumbai. I mean is it really that difficult in the land of assholes? No wonder we always get fucked.

It’s a democratic country. Everyone has the right to do or say whatever they want as long as they’re not spreading hate or hurting anyone. But I can speak with certainty that majority of police force wouldn’t know anything about that. It’s all political. The politicians are taking undue advantage of nation of uneducated people. It’s not about literacy. We lack education. What right does the Shiv Sena or any other criminal organisation for that matter have, to stop the screening of a movie just because the actor said something and they didn’t like it. I just watched the news and they’re doing it. Just like that! No law and order. To be honest I’m not a big fan of SRK and even I didn’t like whatever said about Pakistan. But he is entitled to free speech.

In a couple of days they’ll start attacking every boy and girl around on Valentines days. And I’m pretty sure Pramod Muthalik must be warming himself up for such anti-social activities right now. The most unfortunate of such events happened last year, around Valentines day somewhere in north India. A boy and girl were returning home from school after their classes or something and they were attacked by a mob from some lunatic organisation, just because they thought those two school going kids were celebrating Valentines day. Those kids were actually siblings. I saw the coverage on the TV where the mob was chasing those to kids with clubs and they were throwing stones at them!! What our country has turned into? The middle east?? That video was really disturbing!! Should you be worried about visiting your sister in a free country? Ohh fuck it. I feel like throwing up. It makes me feel sick to my stomach when I think about all this bullshit.

Back to the Valentines day problem. I really don’t see what’s so wrong about it. It’s just a day to celebrate love. I think it’s a great thing. Young couples holding hands, going out, celebrating. What is so wrong with that. They’re not disturbing anyone. But we hate each other so much now that we can’t even tolerate one day of celebrating love. Our politicians have coined this term PDA for us to make it simpler. Public Display of Affection. Why are we so scared? I don’t think our country which produced an entire book about sex, was founded by prudes. I’m sure our forefathers wouldn’t like the India we live in today. So what happened to our freedom? Am I really free? Or am I really living in the wrong country? I pay taxes and live like a law-abiding citizen. Who is there to protect my rights? I’m sure my questions will go unanswered like million others.

She laughs like a wicked angel. Smiles are quite deadly too. Taunting me!! Torturing me!! Devastating my thoughts. They don’t even let me breathe.. Almost killing me.. Voice so sweet makes me wish I had extra sense of hearing.. I’m an addict now. She is to me like heroin to addicts. Sleepless nights making me hallucinate like Absinthe. Bursts of nervous pulses flying insde me.. Restlessness has left me with such vast emptiness I keep wondering who I am!! My soul is starving of something I dont really know.. She haunts me like the singer girl who sang the blues. Can’t help it. Cant hide it either!! All these every time I open the door!!

Racist attacks in Australia.. The joke.

Boy!! What am I reading.. I just read something really funny today.. The Shiv Sena has burnt an effigy of the Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to protest the attacks on Indian students in Australia!! Reported by an Indian media IBNLive. Shiv Sena! This is probably the worst joke I’ve ever heard.

Is it the same racist Shiv Sena, who attacks non-Maharhastrians in Mumbai if they try to get a job in the city? Is it the same Shiv Sena who attacked Biharis and UP people in Maharhastra because they were employed. And we’re not talking about two different countries here. This is about different states in the same f**king country. They hit and kill people who come to work in Maharhastra from other states. Don’t we get mugged in India or hit by Shiv Sena or any other communal or racist organization for that matter. Don’t the Dalits/Christians/Muslims/Hindus get hit more often in India than the so called Indian students in Australia? Forget about these stuffs.. We got bombed and many got bullets in Bangalore serial blasts and the Mumbai incident. Wasn’t white girl raped and murdered in Goa? And then one of those jacka$$ politician made a comment about the kind of clothes she was wearing when the incident happened. What makes the Indian media(specifically Aaj Tak) think that India is such a safe country to live in. Take for example Dr Binayak Sen’s case. He’s been locked up in the jail for two years without any charges. Now how crazy and shameful is that.

In Bangalore itself, I was once asked leave the place as didn’t know Kannada language, by an elderly person. It was really a bitter incident as it was only my first month in the city. One of my friends was also asked to leave Karnataka and find a job in the home town Bhubaneswar as the locals didn’t want us there. Now how does that feel, when you’re the citizen of this country. However as with any other place even Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad or any other place for that matter, majority of the population are really nice and friendly. There’re a$$holes every where. What I believe is there is no point blowing such an issue out of its proportion. It’ll only invite more problems and strain relations among Indians who’re well settled there and whites.

And if our own country itself has so many racism or otherwise national problems, why’re all these celebrities and the politicians playing such a big farce about the Australian issue. The Indian student are studying in Australia on their own will and I guess everyone should see both sides of the story. I say, its only fair to look at your own country before blaming others.

I was in the UK for close to half a year and i rarely faced any issues with racism, leave apart any attacks. And FYI, accordingly to many who’ve lived in both UK and Australia, UK is a much more racist country than the later. I never had any racism problem with adult population. It was only some of the unruly teenagers who created the problem by calling names sometimes. And most that happened in smaller towns, never in big cities. Most of the Friday nights I used walk home alone after partying till 1.00 AM in the morning. Nothing ever happened to me. I wouldn’t dare walking the streets of Kolkata or Bangalore alone at 1.00 AM. Either I’ll get mugged or I’ll be picked up by the police mistaking me for a criminal.

However I’ve seen one trend among Indians abroad. They tend to form groups among themselves and behave as if they’re still in India in the foreign land. They also most often speak Hindi. While there is nothing wrong in it, but the point is, if you left Indian to live in a foreign land I believe you should integrate with their culture and most importantly behave properly.

I guess I never blogged about it. Did I? Well I bought a new MacBook this Feb. The new one. The specs are 2 GHZ Core 2 duo, 2 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce 9400M and DVD RW. Indian price was a bit on the higher side compared to other notebooks of similar configuration. However lets not forget its a Mac. The a$$hole at the local Imagine shop suggested installing Windows Vista and MS office. I dont understand why would anyone want to use Microsoft on a Mac. Microsoft is the only reason people switch form all other hardware vendors to Apple. The guy, without my permission was trying to install Microsoft office (Mac version). I had to explain him that Microsoft was the very reason I was buying this expensive beauty instead of a Dell or HP. Well you might suggest using OpenSource or in other words Linux as an alternative. But lets be honest how many people find proper drivers to use all the hardware properly on Linux. I wasa big fan of Lnux. I’m still a fan of the Tux. However for someone who is looking for a little Moive, browsing and occaisional Blogging its not worth the trouble. So here I’m writting this post on my MacBook, with a smile.

Music.. Never thought of anything other than Rock in last couple of years. Its been only Rock. I’ve become an ardent fan without my own knowledge. Listening to stuff like Led Zep all the time. My iPod 160 GB classic (Silver), which I’m really proud of has close to 25 gig of bootleg Rock music. Ohh not all.. I bought some of em.. I never listen to music on my phone(iPhone 2g) though. I rarely look at my iPod app in my phone. Recently my roomie a big fan of iPhone took my phone and synced it to his iTunes album with a good mix of Hindi songs and some good old melodies like Roxxette. I’d no knowledge of this secret operation. And then suddenly today when my iPod’s battery truned red after playing for more than 30 hours, I had to use my phone for feeding my ears. And it was an eye opener. While I cannot give up Rock, its really been a long time since I last listened to Briyan Adams, one of my long time favs in college days. Also found songs from t.A.T.u., Duran Duran, Madonna, Mandy Moore and Belind Carlisle. I couldn’t believe my eyes the way they were organised with proper Album art and the way you can scroll/flip/touch them using coverflow really made me smile. Some of it sound a bit gay.. I mean when did you last listen to some tunes from the movie Kasoor. Haven’t watched the movie myself, but I would say the songs were beautiful. I found one today. [GRIN] Also found sound tracks from some of my favourite movies like the Rocky series and Top Gun. Suddenly a feeling of happines has come over me in the midst of all these depressing news/stories around, reminding of the good old college days. I miss those days.

For the first time in my life, I dont feel like going home. I think I’ll stay back in the office tonight. Nononono… All guesses are wrong here. I didn’t fall in love with my work, neither do I’ve the company of a hottie. However, some stupid a$$ m0^&#&$(@r has dumped a dead cat just below my window. Its stinking like hell. And yes its not quite a surprising thing in India, worse in Kolkata. I can’t believe the guy who has done it. He/she has placed the dead animal very immaculately on a piece of A4 size paper, as if that bastard was trying to savour it from a street food vendor but he/she didn’t like it. I would give anything to get a shotgun for a$$h0les like these.

Recession and other stories.

Talks about the recession have spread all over the world. The media is going frenzy every single day over the same issue. Everyday I read news about another country going into recession. The US and the UK seem to be the worst hit. And of course as always the effects are being felt here in India too. People who’re employed also seem to be cutting down on spending, while the govts in the developed countries are encouraging people to spend more amid job cuts. In fact, recently when I was going to buy a new MacBook, I called up one my best friends who’d returned from the US to inquire about the price of the notebook. However, I was astonished by his reaction to the fact that I was buying a new MacBook when there are people who don’t have enough to eat. He was just back from California which probably has been one of the worst hit by the recession with photos of closed down shops printed on every news paper. India probably is the only country where the effect of the recession has not been so severe. Yes I know about these IT companies firing employees showing absurd reasons. Some other industries too are busy shedding some “Fat”. In fact, I being employed in this so called Indian Information Technology industry, can feel the wave of nervousness around the office corridors, while the companies are still making tons of profit and also declaring them quite proudly in their quarterly reports. Sometimes I just wonder about things happening around me and force myself to the conclusion that probably my brain is not yet properly equipped to understand all the dynamics of this complex world. May be I don’t want to. I still have fond memories of the Birmingham beer festival last year, when I was sipping ale lazily. In fact, as I write this blog I’m wearing the CAMRA t shirt I bought, perched lazily on my cozy office chair on a Friday afternoon. I guess its doing the job of providing me with inspiration, to follow my dream and open a bar of my own, where I can serve beer to people over rock music and may be, crack a joke or two..

It was a big day of my life.. While friends at home were getting ready for a heavy Sunday lunch, I’d a very big decision to take; getting a haircut. Trust me, its not an easy decision for a guy who’s hair more than 12 inch long. People had started asking me if I didn’t have the money to get a haircut. Some of them actually thought it had someting to do with the current recession. But to be honest, even I dont know why I’d 1 ft. long hair. Anyway in the morning when I woke up, I’d taken that big decision. I googled a bit for a salon near by. My hands felt heavy as I picked up the phone to call “Eye Catchers”. Taxied 1.5 KMs to reach that place exactly at 11.30AM, as I’d an appoinment with the hairdresser. As far as I can remember I’d never fixed an appointment with Hairdresser before this. I’ve surely done it with doctors or some insurance agents.. But with hairdresser, this was the first time. He was speaking a lot of gibberish about fashion, which I’d no idea about, while he ran that machine over my head. After half an hour I’d reduced 1 Kilo in weight and had added Rs. 496 to my credit card bill.. And the same people who thought I was hit by the recession, are now looking twice at me before they can recgonize..

Life is a screwed up thing. This world is a screwed up place too. I feel like giving up everything and go on a long vacation to Goa. May be, then work as a coast guard; certainly not inspired by Baywatch but I’d have the luxury of playing in the sea, all day long. It may so happen that I’ll get sick of it too. Change seems to be quite a part of life and so is our human nature resist it. In the last two months I’ve traveled more than 12,000 KMs, lived in many differenct places scattered across different time zones and geographies. Of course it’s taken its toll on me. One moment I find myself listening to Led Zeppelin and the next moment I switch to Sheryl Crow!! I feel like quitting everything. But again I see all the air-conditioned sedans on the road while I breathe diesel hanging from an auto-rickshaw. I see people suffocating inside the wooden buses of West Bengal Surface Transport corporation with sweat dripping down their every visible organs. Then I also see men in their Lungis pulling rickshaws breathing the same diesel. It makes me sad. While I feel sad about all this shit, people hanging from buses and auto rickshaws stare at my nine inch long hair tied up neatly behind my neck into a ponytail. Some of them giggle at it too. Then I find myself in a little cubicle staring at a computer screen, going through what seem like never ending lines of code, which of course I’ve lost every interest in, since a long time back. But I stare at it because I get paid for it! Boy, now I sound like a phoney, whom I hate the most. Now I’m starting to hate myself.
